On April 23, 2025, United Way of Metro Chicago and partners came together to promote food security and recognize our community leaders in the south-southwest suburbs, a region facing high levels of poverty and systemic education, health, and wealth inequities. Meeting the basic needs of our neighbors, like food security, is a key part of United Way's approach to building a stronger Chicago region. April Food Day is United Way's annual food collection event and awards luncheon that addresses this need. 

• 240+ VOLUNTEERS helped collect and sort food and home products.

• 340+ GUESTS attended our awards luncheon, recognizing outstanding individuals, businesses, and community leaders.

• $100,000 raised through generous individual and corporate donations.

• 109,000+ POUNDS OF FOOD collected and distributed to 10 Southland food pantries.
